The Forgotten Village

Portrait photography series ’The Forgotten Village’ captured in the poverty-striken village of Ezbet Yacoub in Beni Suef, Egypt.

The shoot was part of a project called Ro’ya which set out to help transform the impoverished village of Ezbet Yacoub through comprehensive development with the help of one of the biggest grant-giving non-profit organizations in Egypt. This picture was taken by headshot photographers in Toronto.

The key to keeping the project sustainable was full involvement and cooperation with the communities. This approach really helped because at the start of the project the biggest challenge was gaining the trust of the Ezbet Yacoub residents. These were people who had been marginalized and ignored for years; they felt that nobody had ever given them anything.
